Job Description:

Our Client, a well- established company specializing in steel structures, mechanical engineering, and general fabrication works, is seeking to recruit an experienced and results - oriented Workshop Manager - Head of Fabrication to lead its fabrication workshop operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all workshop activities, ensuring efficient production planning, high quality fabrication, timely project execution, optimal resource utilization and compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. This role requires a hands-on leader with extensive experience in steel fabrication, workshop management, and industrial production.

Key Responsibilities:
Workshop Operations Management
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the steel fabrication and mechanical workshop.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise workshop activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Develop production schedules and allocate resources to maximise productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor workshop performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and minimise downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
Fabrication & Production Management
  • Supervise the fabrication and assembly of:
    • Structural steel components.
    • General steel fabrication works.
    • Sheet metal products.
    • Industrial fabrication projects.
    • Welding, cutting, fitting, and assembly operations.
  • Ensure fabrication work is carried out in accordance with approved engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Monitor fabrication quality, dimensional accuracy, finishing, and workmanship throughout the production process.
  • Resolve technical challenges and provide practical engineering solutions during fabrication.
Project Planning & Coordination
  • Develop production plans and monitor project progress to ensure delivery within agreed timelines.
  • Coordinate closely with Procurement, Engineering, Project Management, and Site Installation teams.
  • Ensure the timely availability of materials, consumables, tools, and equipment.
  • Monitor project costs, labour productivity, and material utilisation.
  • Minimise fabrication errors, material wastage, rework, and production delays.
Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate workshop personnel, including welders, fabricators, fitters, machine operators, painters, and support staff.
  • Allocate manpower effectively across multiple projects based on production priorities.
  • Conduct staff training, coaching, and performance evaluations to enhance technical capability and productivity.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Workshop Maintenance & Safety
  • Ensure workshop machinery, fabrication equipment, and tools are maintained in good working condition through planned maintenance programmes.
  • Monitor the proper use and maintenance of welding equipment, cutting machines, presses, cranes, lifting equipment, and workshop tools.
  • Enforce workplace health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
  • Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to minimise operational disruptions.
Cost Control & Reporting
  • Monitor workshop operating costs and implement measures to improve cost efficiency.
  • Control steel consumption, fabrication consumables, and production losses.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production and progress reports for management.
  • Analyse workshop performance, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend operational enhancements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) relating to productivity, quality, delivery, and equipment utilisation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Fabrication Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in steel fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or workshop management, with proven supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong practical experience in:
    • Structural steel fabrication.
    • Welding and fabrication processes.
    • Sheet metal fabrication.
    • Mechanical workshop operations.
    • Industrial production planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and execute engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Sound knowledge of fabrication machinery, workshop equipment, welding processes, and production systems.
  • Experience in project planning, resource allocation, and production scheduling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and production reporting systems.
