People Project Co. Limited is recruiting on behalf of its client, a reputable and established transportation and logistics company with extensive experience in cargo haulage within Tanzania and across the region. The company operates a fleet of heavy-duty trucks and provides transportation solutions for local, regional and international cargo movements.

The Heavy / Oversized Truck Driver will be responsible for the safe, efficient and timely operation of heavy-duty trucks and trailers used to transport cargo within Tanzania and across international borders.

The successful candidate must have proven experience operating heavy trucks, tractor units, trailers and/or oversized/abnormal-load vehicles, together with a strong understanding of long-haul and cross-border transportation operations.

The driver will be entrusted with the safe transportation of company vehicles and client cargo and will be expected to maintain the highest standards of road safety, vehicle care, cargo security and professional conduct while complying with company procedures, approved routes, transport schedules and applicable laws and regulations.

General Responsibilities:

Driving & Transportation

  • Operate heavy-duty trucks, tractor heads and trailers safely and responsibly.
  • Transport cargo to designated destinations within Tanzania and across regional/cross-border routes.
  • Handle oversized, abnormal, bulky, containerised or other heavy cargo as assigned.
  • Maintain safe driving practices throughout all journeys and under varying road and weather conditions.
  • Plan and follow approved routes while complying with company instructions and transport schedules.
  • Demonstrate competence in long-distance driving and extended journeys.

Cargo Safety & Handling

  • Ensure cargo is properly secured before departure and remains secure throughout the journey.
  • Conduct checks on cargo, load positioning, tarpaulins, straps, chains and other securing equipment where applicable.
  • Report any damage, shortage, movement or security concern involving cargo immediately.
  • Maintain proper custody and accountability of cargo throughout the assigned journey.
  • Follow procedures for loading, offloading and delivery documentation.

Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the assigned truck and trailer.
  • Check brakes, tyres, lights, engine fluids, steering, suspension, coupling systems and other critical components.
  • Immediately report mechanical defects or safety concerns to the Fleet/Workshop team.
  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean and in good operating condition.
  • Ensure all required vehicle documentation and safety equipment are available and valid before commencing a trip.

Long Distance & Cross Border Operations

  • Strictly comply with Tanzania traffic laws and applicable regional transport regulations.
  • Follow the company's Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) requirements.
  • Never operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that may impair driving ability.
  • Observe prescribed driving hours, rest requirements and company fatigue-management procedures.
  • Use seat belts and all required personal protective equipment.
  • Report road accidents, near misses, security incidents and other unsafe conditions immediately.

Customer Service & Professional Conduct

  • Represent the company professionally at customer sites, ports, border points and delivery locations.
  • Maintain good communication and professional conduct with customers and members of the public.
  • Protect the company's reputation through responsible driving and respectful behaviour.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding company, customer and cargo information.
